Wild Hydrogen secures £1.4 million funding to scale breakthrough technology
Wild Hydrogen has secured £1.4 million in Innovate UK funding through the Investor Partnerships Programme for Clean Energy and Climate Technologies, with match funding from Cambridge Angels. Launched in November, the 18-month programme marks a major step forward in taking the company’s patented Rising Pressure Reformer (RiPR) technology from prototype to commercial readiness.
This is Wild Hydrogen’s second Innovate UK award in 2025, following an Innovate UK Smart Grant earlier in the year, bringing total Innovate UK backing to over £1 million. The new programme will advance RiPR from a TRL 6 prototype to a fully engineered system designed for commercial-scale deployment.
RiPR uses supercritical water to convert biogenic materials, including agricultural residues, food waste and municipal waste, into hydrogen, biomethane, biochar and captured carbon dioxide. By avoiding costly pre-treatment and high electricity demand, the process offers a more flexible and lower-cost route to clean gas production compared with conventional technologies.
