IGEM fully supports safe gas work undertaken by competent gas engineers and those registered where registration is required. IGEM also understands that at times engineers and gas work does not meet the expected standards. So, for the UK please see below:
If you know or suspect you have a gas emergency e.g. smell of gas, gas escape, suspected Carbon monoxide CO release; contact the national gas emergency numbers: 0800 111 999
For downstream gas work always check the engineer is Gas Safe Registered, they will have a hard copy card or it will be on their phone – you can check this with Gas Safe if you are suspicious.
If you are experiencing poor gas workmanship it is highly likely Gas Safe Register will be able to help with the following:
- Finding a registered gas engineer
- Reporting illegal gas work (work undertaken by a person not registered with Gas Safe)
- Customer Complaint about unsatisfactory gas work.
