Support your sector: Volunteer for IGEM’s South West or Scottish committees
Did you know our Sections are run by volunteer members?
Each Section has a committee consisting of a Chairperson, Deputy Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. These individuals are supported by the Immediate Past Chair, YPN Representative and 6-9 ordinary committee members.
The most effective committees work as a team. They distribute the work across committee members and everyone plays a part.
Being a committee member is about much more than simply attending meetings, although that is one of a committee member’s tasks. You should see it as an active not a passive role.
You should aim to be available for most meetings and you also need to be aware of the objectives of your committee. You should be prepared to work with the other members of the committee to reach a consensus, so enabling business to be completed, or to move on through the committee structure.
The South West and Scottish Committee both have vacancies, including YPN representatives. Volunteering empowers and connects the next generation of engineers, technicians, and energy professionals. Whether you're an experienced industry leader or just starting your career, we would love to hear from you.
Section committees organise events throughout the year. A Committee Member approximately volunteers three hours a month.
