Project Name: Woolwich Church Street

Scheme background: The project was delivered as a collaborative initiative involving SGN, WCB Utilities, Tarmac Kier Joint Venture, Transport for London (TfL), and the London Borough of Greenwich. While Tarmac Kier Joint Venture acted as
the principal contractor and lead organisation for the highway works, the successful delivery of the scheme
relied upon continuous coordination between multiple stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and timely
execution.

In addition to scheduled coordination conference calls, supplementary progress meetings were convened
between Tarmac Kier Joint Venture, the London Borough of Greenwich, the Greater London Authority (GLA),
and SGN to maintain programme momentum and to clearly define roles and responsibilities. These discussions
addressed key matters including cost-sharing arrangements, traffic management plans, excavation
responsibilities, and reinstatement procedures.

The Tarmac Kier Joint Venture works commenced on 29 September 2025 and are programmed to continue
through to 28 August 2027. In advance of the proposed mains replacement works, SGN undertook the early
installation of new gas risers serving 499–525 Frances Street. This involved the installation of 99.4 metres of 2-
inch galvanised steel pipework and 54.9 metres of ¾-inch steel pipework to provide gas supplies to a total of
twelve residential flats.

Subsequently, WCB Utilities commenced their works between 7 November 2025 and 11 November 2025. The
scope of SGN’s activities further included the installation of 37 metres of 125mm and 13.2 metres of 63mm new
polyethylene (PE) gas main, together with the decommissioning and abandonment of approximately 77 metres
of redundant metallic main.

Tarmac Kier Joint Venture amended their traffic management arrangements to accommodate SGN’s works,
enabling the scheme to be delivered efficiently and without disruption.

Effective communication remained a critical success factor throughout the project. Key stakeholders engaged
during the delivery of the scheme included, but were not limited to:
