Project Name: St Andrews Road

Project Reference Number: SOE17962
Project Network: SGN

Scheme background: This project was delivered by SGN and JDT as part of Croydon Council’s Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) pilot scheme within a designated potential flood risk area in the London Borough of Croydon. The scheme
formed part of a wider initiative led by the Greater London Authority (GLA) to integrate SuDS delivery alongside
essential highway and utility works.

The project was identified through Croydon Council’s Flood Risk Assessment, following which SGN
developed a programme of essential gas main and service replacement works. This presented an opportunity
to incorporate SuDS features within the same road closure, representing a first collaborative delivery of this
type for SGN, JDT, and Croydon Council.

In addition to regular planned conference calls between SGN, JDT, and Croydon Council, supplementary
coordination meetings were held to maintain project momentum. These meetings focused on defining roles
and responsibilities, aligning delivery programmes, and resolving commercial and contractual arrangements.
Engagement with commercial teams resulted in the development of new processes, key contacts, and
payment mechanisms for JDT. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also produced to formalise the
SuDS works as a separate entity from the gas mains replacement programme.

The construction phase commenced on 20 October 2025 and was completed on 23 December 2025. During
this period, SGN and JDT installed a total of 758 metres of 180 mm PE main and 21.5 metres of 75 mm PE
main, and abandoned 779.5 metres of 8-inch cast iron main. All gas services were renewed, with vacuum
excavation (vac-ex) used for all service and connection excavations. Concurrently, JDT installed two SuDS
features as part of the pilot scheme.
