Project Name: Dartford Road

Scheme background: The project was a collaborative effort initially between SGN and Thames Water/M Group working within the same area. Openreach joined during the scheme to undertake a pole replacement, utilising SGN’s traffic
management (TM). Bexley Council required close coordination between all parties to ensure continuity of
works, specifically to avoid the removal of SGN’s TM before Thames Water commenced their activities.
In addition to scheduled conference calls, Thames Water, M Group, Openreach, Telent, and SGN held regular
coordination meetings to maintain progress and alignment. These discussions focused on defining roles and
responsibilities, including cost-sharing arrangements, traffic management plans, excavation duties, and
reinstatement responsibilities.

The project commenced with SGN on 28th January and was completed over a period of 37 days. Thames
Water works followed immediately afterward to maintain continuity across the scheme. SGN undertook mains
replacement using a combination of open-cut and insertion techniques. The works included the installation of:

• 680.5m of 180mm PE
• 66m of 125mm PE
• 106m of 90mm PE
• 235m of 75mm PE

Additionally, SGN decommissioned:

• 597.5m of 8” CI
• 79m of 6” CI
• 382m of 4” CI
