Project Name: Chelsfield Road

Scheme background: The project was delivered as a joint scheme between SGN and JDT as part of the London Borough of Bromley’s resurfacing programme. Works were located within the London Borough of Bromley and were
highlighted through Bromley Council’s resurfacing scheme. As part of this coordination, SGN developed a
project to undertake essential gas main and service replacements, with Bromley Council resurfacing the
affected roads upon completion of the gas works. Bromley Council granted an early start on the permit to allow
the scheme to progress efficiently.

In addition to the planned conference calls between SGN and JDT, further coordination meetings were held
with Bromley Council to maintain momentum and ensure that roles and responsibilities between all parties were
clearly understood.

The project commenced on 26 August 2025 and was completed over a total programme duration of 35 days,
delivered across three separate working periods:
26/08/25 – 08/09/25
04/11/25 – 20/11/25
12/11/25 – 17/11/25

During the works, SGN and JDT live-inserted a total of 848 metres of polyethylene (PE) mains in sizes 125mm,
90mm, 75mm and 63mm, and abandoned 829 metres of existing 4” and 8” cast iron (CI) mains. All gas
services were renewed as part of the scheme. A vacuum excavator was used to excavate all service and
connection holes. Temporary backfilling and reinstatement were carried out by SGN, as permanent resurfacing
works followed immediately after completion.

A number of stakeholders and organisations were involved and required ongoing communication to keep the
project on programme, including (but not limited to):
