IGEM attends House of Commons roundtable on UK's changing political landscape

Ian McCluskey, Head of Technical and Policy at IGEM, joined MPs, industry leaders and policy stakeholders at a House of Commons roundtable hosted by Palace Yard to discuss the implications of the 2026 local and devolved election results.

The session, led by Professor Sir John Curtice, explored how shifting voting patterns and the growing influence of smaller parties are reshaping the UK's political landscape. While focused on electoral trends, the discussion also highlighted the importance of understanding how political change could influence future policy development across key sectors, including energy.

For the gas industry, an increasingly fragmented political environment may require broader engagement across parties and policymakers as debates continue around energy security, decarbonisation, infrastructure investment and the transition to net zero.
